Tourist facilities and accommodation in Namibia is of a very similar standard to those found in South Africa. In the capital Windhoek and the larger towns such a Swakopmund, the hotels are bigger with all the amenities associated with the multi national hotel chains. Once out of the towns, the accommodation is in the form of small lodges, either near the national parks and game reserves or in areas where game is to be found. These luxurious lodges offer all the facilities that you would want, swimming or plunge pools, superb dining, game viewing decks and a range of activities such as hot air ballooning, hiking or safari game drives.
Accommodation in the more remote camps such as the Desert Rhino Camp is under canvas – albeit beautifully furnished with all mod cons and en suite bathrooms. This is not camping as we know it in Britain! At Ongava, Onguma and Okonjima there is a choice of accommodation either in the main lodge or in the ‘bush camps’. These camps are actually chalets, again with canvas walls, but built on solid foundations with en suite facilities, flushing toilets and air conditioning.
